Week 2 Day 2: Offering Support

Since everybody has been doing such a great job identifying invasive species and working hard during service learning blocks, a new layer was added. Today we focused on specific ways to offer support.

Everybody took a turn as project leader during our work in the North Remnant Forest. As project leaders, we offered support by using clear communication, offering encouragement and tracking team goals. Teams Wildcats and Native Rescue each met their goals of 27 buckets of mulch per team in under 15 minutes!

To continue learning about how our work impacts the larger community we conducted interviews around Magnuson.
1. How long have you been coming to Magnuson Park?
2. In your opinion, what is the importance of a park like this to the community?

There were quite a few different answers to these question.

Day 7 was a great Tuesday. We pulled more than 2,000 weeds at the forest today. One interesting thing I learned today was that there were a lot more invasive weeds around than the native plants we notice.

I had a challenge during the puzzle social skills game. It was tough for me to comunicate my instructions to Ryan since he misinterpreted the instructions. I did do a good job when I was project manager and complimented my team every once in a while. Nate and Peter were also good project managers in the same way. Corey and I also interviewed some people who came to the park. I learned that our job at the park helps the community very much, since many people and groups use this park. I didn't really see any cooper's hawks, but I could identify their calls.

every person was doing so well at attacking invasive weeds such as morning glory, and invasive blackberry we would find a diffrent way to get rid of them. when Ryan was project manager he was very supportive of me and Corry working on the weeds and mulch. Corry took a while but got the hang of it. before we came back to the building we had to interview people. i interviewed 2 bikers who had come to maggnason park for three years and think it's important for water things and people with dogs. lol lol lol lol lol

Today was fun to work with Norah for one last time it was also fun when each time we got to be leaders I was the first leader and I encoureged Will and Corey to do more and they did and we took a break and after it Corey was the leader then it took over a few minutes to start because he didn't know what to do and we had lunch at twelve thirty instead of twelve fifteen and I said great job to my friends Nate, Will, Peter, Corey and Maddie and it was fun to work after lunch further in the park and we pulled until one thirty and we cleaned up and got our stuff and Drew broke the groups up to interview people I was with Nate I also asked Norah why we work here and she told me it's because to clean the park up. I hope tomorrow we can work harder at the new place.

Today I rided the forest of alot of it's menacing blackberries, morning glories and all the other not good for enivorniment plants. I had a goal that I was to be encouraging yes I met that goal by suggesting to the group to fill 2 buckets of woodchips each to get work done faster.

At the forest, I picked up a lot of morning glory plants how I was a project manager by helping Will & Ryan mulch the helpless plants & I was encouraging, mild, perspective & I was showing lots of empathy, also, my goal was being perspective to everyone else but I met my goal by helping with my buddies.
